Yesterday marked the final day for responses to the Ministry of Justice?s call for evidence on the European Commission?s data protection proposals which were published in January.
As we?ve noted in previous posts, the draft Data Protection Regulation represents a potentially radical shake-up of the EU?s existing data protection rules, and many of the proposed provisions raise fundamental concerns for business.
Our response to the Government?s consultation, emphasises two key ICC messages? specifically, the importance of promoting an internationally coherent approach to data protection; as well as the need to deliver fully on the Commission?s commitment to cut ?red-tape? in this area.
The submission, which can be downloaded here, also flags a number of specific concerns in relation to issues such as the ?right to be forgotten?, breach notifications, the territorial scope of the Regulation, and consent.
Please don?t hesitate to get in touch with our policy team if you?d like to discuss any issues further?including how ICC UK can work with your business on the data protection agenda.
