New ICC Tool – EU E-Privacy Directive Implementation Table

The EU E-Privacy Directive entered into force in May 2011, requiring website operators to ask for permission from their users when placing certain kinds of cookies on their devices for the first time. However it is still in the process of being implemented across Europe on a country-by-country basis. This has inevitably led to differences between countries in the both the timing of implementation and the way in which the Directive has been transposed into national law.

To help companies navigate this regulatory framework, ICC UK’s Cookies Working Group has developed a table setting out the current situation in 12 key countries in which the E-Privacy Directive will take or has already taken effect. This tool will be updated on a regular basis in order to ensure that all information is up-to-date.

We would like to thank the members of ICC UK’s Cookies Working Group for their time and expertise in contributing to this table.
